Eli, having long ago learned his lesson about leaving a job half-finished, doesn't stop there. There's nothing superhuman about his strength, but his persistence is indomitable. He fights his way through the undead horrors as quickly as he can, until he's close enough to look his opponent in the eye.
There is no question, in Eli's mind, about who will emerge victorious today. But he finds no reason to gloat over that inevitability. "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened," he prays as he aims his gun again, this time for the devil's hands. "And I will give you rest."
