“Likewise, Jaime.” He nods and gives him another smile in hopes of relaxing the boy a little further. He knows how it feels to be so uncertain of how an adult might react to certain things and he does his best to curb the biggest anxiety-making parts of arriving here.

“How long have you been on Krakoa?” He asks curiously. “I’ve been here since it started, but I’m not on the council.” Of course he would know that— Diego wouldn’t have been there during the vetting process. He could be if he wanted, but Diego had made a choice from the outset that he would keep himself separate from that, a face of an adult that doesn’t hold the same level of power, that isn’t on the welcome committee. He hopes it puts some of the kids at ease, but has no real way of judging it very well.

"Less than a week now," Jaime confesses, teeth worrying at his lower lip. He tries not to admit it - even if his body language does all the talking for him, sometimes - but he's always been a naturally anxious guy. He's never had that much to be anxious about until things got a little crazy back home, but that's downright tame compared to here. He still had all his friends, his family, a warm place to rest his head. It's a lot easier to be a superhero when you know that if something goes wrong, your mom and dad will give you a hug and tell you it'll all be okay.

He misses them.

It helps, a little, that Diego's not an authority authority. He seems nice, but the last thing Jaime wants to do is offend one of the big guns. "I've only been in, um. This world for, like, a month? Maybe longer? But I wound up at White Tower. This place sounded nicer."

A safe place to rest, until he gets his bearings, figures out what to do. That's what he thinks now, anyway. "I'd ask if you like it here, but if you're still here after all this time, then I guess you must, huh?"

Diego has enough experience with anxiety-- both his and his siblings-- and all the ways it might decide to manifest itself that he catches it pretty easily; but that doesn't mean he'll call attention to it. That never really helps, anyway, just ends up feeding into itself and making it worse.

Instead, he keeps his focus on the boy's answers, nodding a little. "I was at White Tower when I first got here, too. It made the most sense at the time, but..." he shakes his head. "It's not for me." Despite his personal opinions of the place, he tries not to get into heated discussions of political climates with the kids. This is their freedom away from that. If they choose to ask about it, fine, he won't lie to them (though may tailor things down to age-appropriate levels).

"Mmhm, I like it here a lot. I think we're... building something that has the potential to be better than the mess out there." Vague and unspecific, but not a lie or something sugarcoated to hide the heavy reality of the world outside of Krakoa's protective boundaries.
