[ It's been a hectic few hours since Luther had returned to the usual elevator for his return, carrying Josh in his arms and with a strangely demure Ken Kaneki in tow. It's been a flurry since then: the medical personnel whisking off Josh while security took Kaneki, and Luther listening in on some of the conversations clearing his presence on the island — or at least clearing this strange new version of the cannibal on this island. He'd debriefed with Allison, with the rest of his family.
And after a while, he wonders where Jane is.
She was the one who sent him out, after all, and by now she must know the storm that's come back in their wake. Right? The news of Josh's return has spread like wildfire, and the Council is in each others' pocket to begin with. So Luther wanders, and visits Jane's usual haunts searching for her: ringing the doorbell of her home, checking in on the kitchen, and then finally heading to the aviary and climbing the stairs, where he eventually finds the woman fussing with the birds. He stands there at the top of the stairwell for a moment, half-leaning against the wall, just watching her. ]
Kaneki had asked to bring someone with him and she had thought it must be someone like himself, someone who had suddenly begun to have serious misgivings about what they were doing and where they were, but--
He'd appeared with Luther, and it had been Josh.
After all her searching, all her poking around and spying, she'd finally found him, and it had been an accident. She should be happy - and she is, in a way, that he's back with them and he's safe - but there's a strange bitterness to it. He had been right under her nose the whole time.
She waits until she's sure he's alive, until Kaneki has been taken somewhere secure, and then she leaves. No fuss, no dramatics, she simply walks away and does so entirely unnoticed in the general hubub. She goes up to the aviary just to spend some time with the calm and quiet minds of creatures who have such simple things to speak of, and she should expect to be followed, yet Luther's voice still makes her jump in surprise.]
Oh-- [And she rubs at her eyes with the back of her wrist.] Luther. Come in.
