1. WHITE TOWER; before quantum leap

[ It’s not that Kaneki was born a bad person; he is in fact the epitome of “the way to hell is paved with good intentions” because all of this started with wanting to do good and spiraled down to whatever he is now. Ken is a man in love; he is in love with his wife who is still back in their original world, he is in love with his husband who was ported out years ago – and the love he feels for them, after so many years without them, turned into loss. And loss turned into bitterness, anger, frustration, despair. And Kaneki does not deal well with any of that. He blamed himself at first, but eventually blamed the world.

The world is wrong. The Porter is wrong.

And he is tired of living in the shadow of a machine that nobody really controls – or rather, don’t know how to control. Because, in his mind, he is certain it IS possible to do that. If only he can get to it.

And that’s his plan, to get to it by reaching the highest position as the High Chancellor. He has few bad beans on his way, but he is certain he can pluck them out. And with that single objective in his mind, Kaneki grew to become a member of the Parliament of White Tower, but also a vicious assassin for the faction. Not only that, but his biology – a half-ghoul, who can only consume humans – became well known and he too became well known as the “One Eyed Reaper”, the one who does not leave anything behind (because he eats them, yeah!). And he embraced this title quite well, standing tall, often with an angry expression (also called “resting bitch face syndrome”) and little patience for anyone that will not help his objective.

Few people get to see a much more gentle side of him, often reserved to his current lover Ashlynn, mentor, and allies. Towards everyone else, he is cold, often angry, if not downright vicious. Careful not to step on his toes – he bites. ]

2. WHITE TOWER; post quantum leap

[ waking up in the middle of a room with a woman pretty much on top of him was not something he expected happening, but it is something that did happen. Confusion hit, naturally, but after calming down and speaking to Ashlynn, kaneki learned a bit about this place and the person that he just stole the body from (well, technically it’s himself, right? A version of himself. Kaneki is familiar with alternative timelines by now, if only because that’s what he thinks it happened with that other Kaneki who left last year). Anyway, about what he learned-

None of it was good. And he hates everything he heard.

This world, not only is confusing, but it’s also terrifying, and the person Kaneki just stole the body from – well, he is completely insane. Naturally Ken didn’t share all of his thoughts with Ashlynn, but she probably picked on it from the terrified expressions Ken made. A psychotic killer, an assassin, and someone who willing eats other people, who was recently hired to kill the High Chancellor and wants to take over the place so he can control the Porter. Insane, that person is insane.

Do you know who is not insane? This Kaneki, who actually realizes this is bad. Given how involved original Kaneki was, doesn’t that mean he too is involved, even if he doesn’t want to be? People will recognize him, people will realize it’s not him, and given how murderous this whole faction seems to be, won’t they just go in for an easy kill? Kaneki realizes he is in danger and he realizes he should leave.

Ashlynn has been extremely helpful, but Kaneki doesn’t want to tell her he is planning on leaving (deflecting, that’s the word. Becoming a traitor is also a good way to describe it). But he can’t stay here and thus he decides to at least explore his options. Right now, he can be found at a library, reading through newspapers and articles, learning about the factions and the current state of the world. He is quick to notice Krakoa could a good faction to join but also easy to get to, considering what Ashlynn told him about Josh.

And thinking of him actually makes his face twist. Can he… really just go there and release him? While the woman holding him captive said so, in the end Kaneki is worried if he has to fight someone, too. He doesn’t want to give away that he is not the original Kaneki, and he doesn’t want to be too involved, either. At the same time, it feels so cruel to leave that person, even if Kaneki never met Josh. ] What do I do…? [ with a frustrated sigh, Kaneki passes his hands through his now white hair. Maybe the network… maybe someone else is like him? He can’t be the only one that suddenly just woke up in this place and replaced the original person living here. Right…? ]

For continuity sake, Kaneki will end up figthing Kavinsky after this. That's when he will make a network, asking for help. He will be offered help from Jane Porter (from Krakoa) during this post, but Kaneki decides to go save Josh first. He and Josh will be arriving in Krakoa thanks to Luther's powers.

3. KRAKOA; post-arrival

[ Kaneki arrived to Krakoa a complete and utter mess. He saved Josh and brought him along, and Luther came to pick him and Josh up and of course the man had no idea who Kaneki was (and most likely only knew him as “that guy who eats people”). And then in Krakoa, Kaneki had to try and explain this whole mess and how he really is not that guy who eats people (actually, he does. But not the way the other Kaneki did!!).

To add to all of that, Kaneki killed someone. He promised to himself he’d never kill a person, he’d never kill a human. And he did. It broke him completely, his mind and his heart. And sure the person he killed was an imPort and he was revived, but Ken had never killed before.

The days after his arrival are spent mostly avoiding everyone. Kaneki just wants to be left alone, as far away from people as possible. He stays by the beach while he stares down at his hands, all of him broken thanks to everything that has been happening. He doesn’t even remember how he killed Kavinsky, but everytime he remembers him dead, kaneki gags and actually vomits. He has nothing left in his stomach by now, but that will continue to happen – and he cries and sobs like a child, unable to control himself.

what did he do?!

This shouldn’t be happening. None of this should be happening. Why does everything happen to him? ]

4. KRAKOA; general/happier prompt

[ Naturally, Kaneki can’t just cry forever. He still feels sick and still cries whenever he remembers what he did, but Ken comes to the realization that he… might be here forever. So eventually he moves from his hiding place and actually joins the rest of the island. It’s surprising to see so many children around, but they seem happy and in a way, that calms his heart a little.

From time to time he hears his name and there is a strong feeling of fear and despair creeping right behind him, but it passes soon enough when he notices it’s a kid asking him if he’d like to play. “No, thank you” is always the polite answer he gives, but he does watch the children happily enjoying their time, as if the world outside this island wasn’t completely broken and messed up. Maybe that’s the point of this place.

Neverland.

Well, he is here too, so that makes him one of the lost boys. If he has to live in this world, he is glad he is allowed to be on this island, at least. ]

[ oh he sounds amused again ] I told you.

Come on. [ Kaneki will direct Bakugou to the bed, so he can lay there. And it's probably better to help him get off his clothes, but at the same time, kaneki feels that could be too dangerous... ]

Ah- maybe it's better if you change too. I'll grab your shirt.

[Katsuki holds onto Kaneki the entire time until they've reached the bed. He stares at him, not realizing anything Kaneki is worried about.]

Then fucking grab it. Don't be a baby.

[ says the person clinging to him like that. Once Bakugou is on the bed, Kaneki moves away finally, to grab a shirt which he hands Bakugou.]

Do you want water? [ Katsuki got drunk, so probably drinking some water would be good for him]

[Katsuki stares up at Kaneki, his limbs splayed out, and puts the shirt behind him like a pillow.]

Need more'n water...

[ he gave you that shirt for you to change, Bakugou. But Kaneki moves to grab a glass of water from the small kitchen, returning after to offer it to the other]

What else do you need?

[Katsuki stands up on the bed and jumps, attempting to use his quirk to fly toward Kaneki-

and lands with a thud! on the floor.]

You.

[ Kaneki tries to be quick to reach for Katsuki so he won't get hurt but in the end he isn't fast enough. With a tiny sigh he approaches to help him stand again, but Bakugou's word does make his cheeks turn red.

... This drunk guy.]

I will wait with you until you fall asleep.

[Katsuki wraps his arms around Kaneki's shoulders again, shaking his head in the crook of his neck.]

No. Stay.

I'm not leaving. [ Kaneki moves this time to bring Bakugou along. His super strength is handy enough like that, and so he puts the other back in the bed, sitting besides him.

And to reassure him Kaneki isn't leaving, his hand reaches for Bakugou's, while he smiles a little]

Sleep. I will be here.

Good.

[Katsuki smiles, his eyes dazed-

And then he tries to drag Kaneki to lie down with him.]

I'd kill you if you weren't.

[ oh. Okay, yeah he can do that too. Kaneki lays down, looking at Bakugou - he's very close again. And also very drunk.

While Kaneki's cheeks are red, he hopes it's not too obvious the way he looks at the other. But then again he can always chalk it up to Bakugou being confused if he realizes Kaneki's thoughts.]

I know, I know. I'm here.

[ ah. He can see his eyelashes.]

[Now that Kaneki is lying down with him, Katsuki embraces him again, his eyes half-lidded and staring into Kaneki's. Good. He doesn't want him to leave.]

Your eyes... I like 'em...

[ they are close like that and Kaneki's heart hammers in his chest. It's warm, it's really so warm.

"I like you, I think".

Kaneki thinks that to himself, but he knows he can't say it. That would be very unfair, wouldn't it? Unfair to Bakugou who'd have to answer that confession (and who, right now, is very drunk) and unfair to himself, because in the end Kaneki believes he can't have anymore than this - not when he is a ghoul, not when he killed someone, not when he is a monster. Of course he can't say it, nothing will come out of it.

He smiles instead and his hand reaches for Bakugou's hair to play with the orange locks. Maybe this will help him to fall asleep faster]

They are pretty blind right now. [ he ends up looking away though, embarrassed]

You are warm.

Mn. [Kaneki is so warm and he could easily kill him. It feels nice, being close to him like this. But the nerd probably doesn't feel the same.

Stupid nerd. Not having the guts to just tell him to fuck off.]

Then I can pretend you're looking at me like...

Yeah? Your cheeks are warm. [He presses his palms against Kaneki's cheeks, as if that will make his point.]

[ he looks back at Bakugou once again] I am looking at you... [ how could he not?

Kaneki feels his stomach drop as Bakugou reaches for his cheeks, feeling them burn up. Everywhere the other touches is burning, and the half-ghoul is certain at this point Bakugou would be able to tell weren't he that drunk.

His hand reach for Bakugou's wrists, gently feeling the skin. This is becoming really difficult]

Bakugou... [ he whispers his name as if to hope for something. Maybe he will suddenly be human tomorrow, and maybe then it will be alright, maybe, maybe...maybe...

That's just wishful thinking.

This is so unfair.

Kaneki comes closer, pressing his face against Bakugou's shoulder, and his arms wrap around his chest so the two can be closer. Just for a little while, Bakugou is probably drunk enough to allow it]

Yeah but... ain't looking at me like I'm someone important. Or maybe you are-

[Kaneki's touch is a lot softer than he'd expect from someone with ghoul skin. He's gentle, and careful, and it makes warmth flood his chest. He cares about Kaneki, he already knows that, but maybe...

Maybe it's something else too. More. Kaneki presses his face against his shoulder and Katsuki hums softly, tangling his fingers in his hair and holding onto him tightly.]

What is it?

Of course I am. You are important to me, you should know that by now. [ his voice is slightly muffled by Bakugou's shoulders but it's alright. He is close enough to be heard, even if Kaneki's voice is soft like a whisper.] I don't want to lose you.

[ not now, not back in their world either - honestly, Kaneki feels like Bakugou is the most important person to him, right now. That's also why he won't tell Bakugou anything - otherwise, he'd lose him, Ken knows that very well.

So he just remains quiet, close to the other like that. This is enough, this is more than enough, Kaneki should not wish for more and he will try his hardest not to. ]

I know- you cook for me, even though you... [With Kaneki close like this, he can almost feel his voice against his ribcage and heart. He snorts, resting his face in Kaneki's hair and rubbing small circles against his back.]

You won't. If I get killed here I'll kill me myself.

[ Kaneki hums softly. His head remains in place, face hidden against Bakugou's shoulder while his smell fills his nostrils and leaves him a bit dazy. Ken doesn't dare to move now, feeling Bakugou's gentle touches and feeling like the other will stop if he moves too much.

He doesn't want that. He wants this much at least.] I know you won't, but I still worry.

[ not just death but if the Porter decides to send Bakugou back, what will he do? Kaneki will be forgotten, as if he never existed. And Bakugou will become just a memory.

He hates that.]

I like cooking. [ going back to that subject now] It feels like I can be a bit more human like that.

You worry too much...

[Katsuki smiles, breathing in Kaneki's scent.] You smell good.

[Kaneki smells familiar, and a bit like coffee.]

You're human. You cry too fucking much to just be a ghoul. But your cooking is...it's good. Cook for me tomorrow...

[He yawns, nuzzling Kaneki's hair as his eyes start to shut.]

[ kaneki smiles a little at the request] I will. I will cook for you any meal you want. [ for as long he is allowed. He supposes if Ochako does start cooking for Bakugou like she wants to do, then Kaneki will no longer do it.

He doesn't want to think about that right now. Or maybe he does. In a way, if Bakugou did get a girlfriend, Kaneki maybe would stop feeling like this. probably.

He moves his head finally and rests it besides his friend. Naturally he is sleepy (and still drunk) so Kaneki will let him sleep, but he whispers softly too:] I like your smell, too.

Lemme feed you back...

[Katsuki hates feeling like he's useless, and Kaneki has done so much for him already.]

Yeah? I showered.

[ aha, he can't eat anything Bakugou prepares him. But Kaneki thinks the other is saying such a (dangerous) thing because he is drunk and tired.

And again the comment about how he smells wasn't about that he showered, either. Because Kaneki doesn't really like the smell of shampoos and soaps, so this really isn't about showering. At all.

Kaneki at least realizes all of that. He smiles a little sad; for himself, who can't eat Bakugou's food, and for Bakugou who should be feeling upset that a ghoul just said he smells good. This is so messed up.

Kaneki is so messed up]

Try sleeping. I will stay here.

Yeah, yeah...

[At least Kaneki isn't arguing and insulting himself to Katsuki. He thought he would, but maybe his judgment is impaired because he's drunk. That's probably it. Kaneki is warm, and kind, and stupid. He infuriates Katsuki sometimes but right now he just wants to stay with him.]

Night. I wanna-

[His voice dies off into slow, deep breaths as he finally drifts off holding onto Kaneki.]

[ kaneki watches Bakugou falling asleep and will remain like that for a little while longer, to make sure he won't wake the other up when he moves. Because eventually he doe moves - it's probably really creepy to just stay there staring, after all - and will try to get off the bed to put the food he got back in the fridge. He will cook for Bakugou tomorrow, as promised.

And since Bakugou is sleeping, Kaneki will take the chance to reach the farthest part of the fridge where he keeps hidden a small bag with bottles inside. Those are bottles of blood he brought from the mainland when he left White Tower, and currently his source of food. He did get hungry when he was fighting Bakugou, after all.

At least he will leave the small apartment though. There is no way Kaneki will be eating (well, drinking) with Bakugou there. ]
