1. WHITE TOWER; before quantum leap
[ It’s not that Kaneki was born a bad person; he is in fact the epitome of “the way to hell is paved with good intentions” because all of this started with wanting to do good and spiraled down to whatever he is now. Ken is a man in love; he is in love with his wife who is still back in their original world, he is in love with his husband who was ported out years ago – and the love he feels for them, after so many years without them, turned into loss. And loss turned into bitterness, anger, frustration, despair. And Kaneki does not deal well with any of that. He blamed himself at first, but eventually blamed the world.
The world is wrong. The Porter is wrong.
And he is tired of living in the shadow of a machine that nobody really controls – or rather, don’t know how to control. Because, in his mind, he is certain it IS possible to do that. If only he can get to it.
And that’s his plan, to get to it by reaching the highest position as the High Chancellor. He has few bad beans on his way, but he is certain he can pluck them out. And with that single objective in his mind, Kaneki grew to become a member of the Parliament of White Tower, but also a vicious assassin for the faction. Not only that, but his biology – a half-ghoul, who can only consume humans – became well known and he too became well known as the “One Eyed Reaper”, the one who does not leave anything behind (because he eats them, yeah!). And he embraced this title quite well, standing tall, often with an angry expression (also called “resting bitch face syndrome”) and little patience for anyone that will not help his objective.
Few people get to see a much more gentle side of him, often reserved to his current lover Ashlynn, mentor, and allies. Towards everyone else, he is cold, often angry, if not downright vicious. Careful not to step on his toes – he bites. ]
2. WHITE TOWER; post quantum leap
[ waking up in the middle of a room with a woman pretty much on top of him was not something he expected happening, but it is something that did happen. Confusion hit, naturally, but after calming down and speaking to Ashlynn, kaneki learned a bit about this place and the person that he just stole the body from (well, technically it’s himself, right? A version of himself. Kaneki is familiar with alternative timelines by now, if only because that’s what he thinks it happened with that other Kaneki who left last year). Anyway, about what he learned-
None of it was good. And he hates everything he heard.
This world, not only is confusing, but it’s also terrifying, and the person Kaneki just stole the body from – well, he is completely insane. Naturally Ken didn’t share all of his thoughts with Ashlynn, but she probably picked on it from the terrified expressions Ken made. A psychotic killer, an assassin, and someone who willing eats other people, who was recently hired to kill the High Chancellor and wants to take over the place so he can control the Porter. Insane, that person is insane.
Do you know who is not insane? This Kaneki, who actually realizes this is bad. Given how involved original Kaneki was, doesn’t that mean he too is involved, even if he doesn’t want to be? People will recognize him, people will realize it’s not him, and given how murderous this whole faction seems to be, won’t they just go in for an easy kill? Kaneki realizes he is in danger and he realizes he should leave.
Ashlynn has been extremely helpful, but Kaneki doesn’t want to tell her he is planning on leaving (deflecting, that’s the word. Becoming a traitor is also a good way to describe it). But he can’t stay here and thus he decides to at least explore his options. Right now, he can be found at a library, reading through newspapers and articles, learning about the factions and the current state of the world. He is quick to notice Krakoa could a good faction to join but also easy to get to, considering what Ashlynn told him about Josh.
And thinking of him actually makes his face twist. Can he… really just go there and release him? While the woman holding him captive said so, in the end Kaneki is worried if he has to fight someone, too. He doesn’t want to give away that he is not the original Kaneki, and he doesn’t want to be too involved, either. At the same time, it feels so cruel to leave that person, even if Kaneki never met Josh. ] What do I do…? [ with a frustrated sigh, Kaneki passes his hands through his now white hair. Maybe the network… maybe someone else is like him? He can’t be the only one that suddenly just woke up in this place and replaced the original person living here. Right…? ]
For continuity sake, Kaneki will end up figthing Kavinsky after this. That's when he will make a network, asking for help. He will be offered help from Jane Porter (from Krakoa) during this post, but Kaneki decides to go save Josh first. He and Josh will be arriving in Krakoa thanks to Luther's powers.
3. KRAKOA; post-arrival
[ Kaneki arrived to Krakoa a complete and utter mess. He saved Josh and brought him along, and Luther came to pick him and Josh up and of course the man had no idea who Kaneki was (and most likely only knew him as “that guy who eats people”). And then in Krakoa, Kaneki had to try and explain this whole mess and how he really is not that guy who eats people (actually, he does. But not the way the other Kaneki did!!).
To add to all of that, Kaneki killed someone. He promised to himself he’d never kill a person, he’d never kill a human. And he did. It broke him completely, his mind and his heart. And sure the person he killed was an imPort and he was revived, but Ken had never killed before.
The days after his arrival are spent mostly avoiding everyone. Kaneki just wants to be left alone, as far away from people as possible. He stays by the beach while he stares down at his hands, all of him broken thanks to everything that has been happening. He doesn’t even remember how he killed Kavinsky, but everytime he remembers him dead, kaneki gags and actually vomits. He has nothing left in his stomach by now, but that will continue to happen – and he cries and sobs like a child, unable to control himself.
what did he do?!
This shouldn’t be happening. None of this should be happening. Why does everything happen to him? ]
4. KRAKOA; general/happier prompt
[ Naturally, Kaneki can’t just cry forever. He still feels sick and still cries whenever he remembers what he did, but Ken comes to the realization that he… might be here forever. So eventually he moves from his hiding place and actually joins the rest of the island. It’s surprising to see so many children around, but they seem happy and in a way, that calms his heart a little.
From time to time he hears his name and there is a strong feeling of fear and despair creeping right behind him, but it passes soon enough when he notices it’s a kid asking him if he’d like to play. “No, thank you” is always the polite answer he gives, but he does watch the children happily enjoying their time, as if the world outside this island wasn’t completely broken and messed up. Maybe that’s the point of this place.
Neverland.
Well, he is here too, so that makes him one of the lost boys. If he has to live in this world, he is glad he is allowed to be on this island, at least. ]

QUANTUM LEAP; closed to Ashlynn
In this world, Kaneki had just managed to pin down Ashlynn against the bed - somehow. She is taller than him, but he doesn't mind that, and finds it actually quite nice. The two have amazing chemistry and Kaneki grew fond of her with time, to the point he considers her a lover, a partner, an ally, and someone to bring along when he gets his hands on the Porter; she is someone he does not want to lose and will fight to keep her with him.
The irony in this is that she is the one who is about to lose Kaneki (this version of him) because suddenly that pull happens and when Kaneki opens his eyes he has been replaced with another.
Kaneki opens his eyes to realize the sweetest taste against his lips and in his mouth, an intoxicating smell fills up his nostrils, and there is a soft (squish) body under him. It takes a bit for him to fully understand the whole scene, but when he notices he is kissing/being kisses by someone, suddenly Ken pulls himself up with a surprised gasp ] WHa!?!
Re: QUANTUM LEAP; closed to Ashlynn
[She whined in a cute manner, pouting as she tugged on his shoulders to pull him back down, not yet aware that this Kaneki was no longer her Kenaki.]
It was just a little bite. I didn't even break skin.
[Ashlynn tugged a bit harder.]
And you said as long as I didn't break skin, it was fine!
no subject
Kaneki was completely lost as he felt her pulling him down again. She was close, so so SO CLOSE!! And finally he kind of managed to react properly, even if his face was completely red up to his ears. Kaneki tugged the opposite direction, and thanks to his inhuman strength, he managed to break free from the embrace.
he also managed to suddenly fall off the bed, only to realize he was topless, thus he tried to cover his chest after ]
What is going on?! [ who are you?! ]

closed to Rey Palpatine
Which should be a somewhat obtainable objective or at least an objective he should be able to focus on - except he can't because after what he learned from Ashlynn basically tells him he has a huge target on his back from several people.
Like the High Chancellor's wife, who hired Kaneki to kill her husband. And as anyone can guess, he didn't do it. And to make matters worse, Kaneki has no idea who "Palpatine" is so it's not like he can just easily spot her from the crowd.
Hopefully she is a way too busy woman and will maybe forget the whole thing and leave Kaneki alone for the time being. But that's wishful thinking and Ken knows it. So maybe having some crazy murderous lady eventually showing up out of nowhere to get some answers from him, might be causing him A LOT of stress. ]
no subject
Rey is operating with, uh well, some near constant level of rage just radiating around her. More so than usual, which maybe some are chalking up to parliamentary in-fighting and an upcoming very important Synod, but really the cause is much more straightforward than that. ]
How-- [ Oh no, Kaneki, she's found you. She uses the Force to form a vise grip on him, and pull him across the floor so she can hiss in his face. ] --are you going to explain your failure to complete your assignment?
no subject
As he is pulled towards her with ease, Kaneki gasps with surprise when he can see her right in front of him. Ashlynn had only mentioned one person Kaneki had a deal with, thus he is very quick to catch who this is - and that means he is in big trouble! He didn't even think Rey could overpower a ghoul so easily, but she doesn't seem to be one bit threatened even though Kaneki is apparently well known around White Tower for being... well, a vicious cannibal person.
Lying his wait out of this like he has been able to do so far may not work, in fact.
This is bad! ]
Give... me a moment. I can explain- [ how is he going to explain? His whole explanation will sound insane!
This is really bad!!!]
closed to Kavinsky
After everything that has happened, Ken has managed to survive at the White Tower, despite the many issues he had to deal with so far that his alternate-self created. Rey Palpatine has allowed him to leave in exchange for his silence about her plans to dethrone Tony Stark, and of course that means he has to leave as fast as possible.
The chance to leave this totalitarian (and honestly crazy) faction is all Ken wants, but he is worried that leaving the one place that controls the Porter would end up stranding him here for longer than he has to be, since he still has no idea what happened and why he was swapped with this world's Kaneki. He also has found no one that is in the same situation he is, and that means no matter where he goes, he doesn't know anyone - and most likely the others will know him as "that crazy guy who eats people".
He also has someone to save. Ashlynn admitted to Kaneki about the abduction of one Josh Foley under Tony Stark's command, and whom she has been keeping prisoner (and torturing!) for the past year. The thought of leaving a person like that any further makes him sick, and he should at least be able to save him before he leaves White Tower faction. Since he has Josh's location, Kaneki has decided to go there, get Josh out, and both of them can maybe decide going somewhere else that is not a faction crawling with people who want to kill and torture each other.
Sounds like a good plan, but it's hard to put into practice when you know little of the world you are at. Still, looking down at his communicator, Kaneki is set on following what he decided.
It will be okay. He can do this. Nothing else will happen (except it will) ]
about to lock in death/no death oocly but tagging in now!
but when this one lands on the wide stone floor and the faceplate clanks up, it's kavinsky's face inside of it. if kaneki were kaneki, he'd immediately recognize something's off; this suit doesn't have the offensive capabilities that the original power armor does. but since kaneki isn't kaneki, or at least not as this world has known him, that distinction might well be off.]
Kaneki, [kavinsky says. he takes a step toward the other man, the armored foot ringing metallic.] I know 'treason' can have complicated definitions in a nation-state like ours, but there's no excuse for this one.
no subject
Kaneki has no idea who kavinsky is (he knows the name, but not the face or... anything other than being the High Chancellor's right hand), much less that he has a robot suit. In fact, when he sees an iron man suit, Kaneki assumes this is (obviously) a robot.
There is a pause, clear confusion in his face, and when the word "treason" is brought up, he feels a shiver running through his back and his stomach almost turns. at this stage and after what happened with Rey, Kaneki feels like there is no point trying to pretend to be the original Kaneki from this world.
Truth might just save him!
He lifts his hands, a small gesture, but hopefully it will show this person/robot that he doesn't plan on attacking ] Look- this sounds insane-
but I'm not Kaneki. [ wow. this really is the best he can come up with. ]
powerpose, lmk if not ok!
it's perfect, don't worry!
yayyy also more powerpose tho D:

closed to Josh and later Luther
except not really, kaneki should have checkedand he panicked and just fled from the scene. Unsure where to turn, he sent a desperate message to the network, begging for help, but among all the chaos and fear, he remembers what Ashlynn told him about a certain important prisoner: Josh Foley,a Krakoa member. The same Krakoa who are actually working to get him out of White Tower. Kaneki feels none of this is right - Kaneki just killed someone, and instead of proper anger and disgust from others, he is getting help; and meanwhile there is someone from the place helping him, who has been locked away for a year now, being tortured by White Tower.
As if a right will cover a wrong, Kaneki decides he will not leave with the other. He heads to that specific hidden spot that Ashlynn has been keeping him away, half-expecting this to be just a trap, however it ends up not really being it. There is no army waiting to kill Kaneki, and it's relatively easy for him to get where Josh is. And he knows he is in the right place because, for some reason, there are chickens.
He doesn't know why there are chickens, but Ashlynn told him they are important (??????????????)
They have no super-powers, apparently - and Kaneki confirms this by gently moving one to the side and the chicken acted exactly the way a chicken would
why is everything in this world so damn weirdThe cell is also easy to find because Josh is the only person in the building and locked in a cell, just like Ashlynn said. Kaneki approaches, whispering at first, afraid someone will come out of the shadows ] J-Josh Foley? [ he never met the man in his life, and he sure hopes it IS him ]
no subject
he looks dead. might as well be, for all the hope he has left of getting out of this.
its the fear that makes him seem alive. he flinches at the sound of a sudden voice breaking the quiet, hands clenching and body jerking upright in terror. it's not one he recognizes, not one he can anticipate. his head lifts and those pale eyes lock onto the sudden intruder, confusion and alarm reflected in equal parts. ]
no subject
How could anyone do this to another person? What is wrong with people in this world?!
Kaneki gasps when the other man moves, and he is quick to rush to him. He doesn't even know where to touch, he doesn't even know what to do exactly, but he knows those chains need to go ] It's okay, I'm here to help! I will get you out! [ Kaneki's super strength comes in hand and with a thug he manages to rip the shackles off the wall. ] Can you move? I can- I can carry you- [ this is very first rescue attempt, that much is obvious, because it is true, Kaneki has no idea what he can even do ]

Once he manages to find the place they have set up the meeting, Kaneki heads there as fast as possible. The mask is strange, but he will bring it along too, even if it covers the wrong eye.

And he hates it. Oh how he hates it. But at least it's bound to open up conversation that doesn't involve the half-ghoul feeling sorry for himself. Hopefully.]
Yo.
[He stops next to the boy, hands in his pockets. Gone are the usual tattoos, and his dark hair is hanging loose over his shoulders. 4.
It'd be safe to assume she laid down in someone's garden, but...if he comes closer, Kaneki may actually see that the flowers seem to be sprouting from where the wolf is laying, swaying gently in the warm breeze. Considering the blooms are as white and soft as she is, it'd be east to miss their sudden growth, and the canine seems to pay them no mind, her chest rising and falling easily as an ear flicks lazily in the direction of a few sounds nearby.]

Uh. That sure is a thing.
He probably should avoid it too, he doesn't want to step on the flowers in case they are like... part of her or something (who knows!!!) ]

And one of the ones that thought it was most owed to Kaneki had grown tired of watching him grieving, alone, at a distance. Today he had decided enough was enough. One didn't heal from what Kaneki had been through by isolation. So he slowly moved over the sand and approached carefully. AS he got close he could hear the sobbing, see the way his shoulders shook.
An arm draped over Kaneki's shoulder, meant to be soothing.]
It's okay, you know. To hurt. To hate what you did. But don't hate yourself. Accept that there is growing and healing that must happen. And charge yourself to meet that change.

Change myself...? How do I change "becoming a murderer"? [ he doesn't know. To him, that was unforgivable ] I know that many people had to do it before, but- I never wanted to be one of those. [ and people may think that's pathetic but Kaneki has tried so hard to be kind. After becoming a ghoul and starting to eat what he eats, of course he is no longer kind, but murder is an even bigger step away from kindness ]
Will he really be revived? [ people told him that, even back in the original imPort world where he came from, but Kaneki never really saw that happening or met someone who was revived. To him, it just felt like a story someone tells ]

She loves the beach, and often goes there to relax. It's there that she spots him, sitting on the sand with his head bowed and shoulders shaking, and she feels that same pang of gentle pity that had moved her to help him in the first place despite all reservations about who he was. She pads quietly across to him, her sandals dangling in one hand, and she sits down next to him.
And she doesn't know what to say.
'Thank you' isn't enough, and it doesn't seem right. Jane hesitates before she touches him but then gently places a hand on his back, sliding it up to the shoulder opposite to her and lightly drawing the man against her side.
She doesn't know what to say, so she says nothing.]

He too doesn't know what to say. So he says nothing. There is nothing else to say when he believes himself to be a murderer, and though he was allowed in krakoa, Kaneki wonders if maybe he should be locked up somewhere - how else is he supposed to suffer the consequences of his actions? How can he make up for what he did to Kavinsky? How does one make up for murder? He has no idea.
When he feels a hand, ken jerks again and a tiny gasp follows. Out of all the things he expected, he didn't expect a gentle kind gesture like that ]
... how is Josh-san?
