1. WHITE TOWER; before quantum leap

[ It’s not that Kaneki was born a bad person; he is in fact the epitome of “the way to hell is paved with good intentions” because all of this started with wanting to do good and spiraled down to whatever he is now. Ken is a man in love; he is in love with his wife who is still back in their original world, he is in love with his husband who was ported out years ago – and the love he feels for them, after so many years without them, turned into loss. And loss turned into bitterness, anger, frustration, despair. And Kaneki does not deal well with any of that. He blamed himself at first, but eventually blamed the world.

The world is wrong. The Porter is wrong.

And he is tired of living in the shadow of a machine that nobody really controls – or rather, don’t know how to control. Because, in his mind, he is certain it IS possible to do that. If only he can get to it.

And that’s his plan, to get to it by reaching the highest position as the High Chancellor. He has few bad beans on his way, but he is certain he can pluck them out. And with that single objective in his mind, Kaneki grew to become a member of the Parliament of White Tower, but also a vicious assassin for the faction. Not only that, but his biology – a half-ghoul, who can only consume humans – became well known and he too became well known as the “One Eyed Reaper”, the one who does not leave anything behind (because he eats them, yeah!). And he embraced this title quite well, standing tall, often with an angry expression (also called “resting bitch face syndrome”) and little patience for anyone that will not help his objective.

Few people get to see a much more gentle side of him, often reserved to his current lover Ashlynn, mentor, and allies. Towards everyone else, he is cold, often angry, if not downright vicious. Careful not to step on his toes – he bites. ]

2. WHITE TOWER; post quantum leap

[ waking up in the middle of a room with a woman pretty much on top of him was not something he expected happening, but it is something that did happen. Confusion hit, naturally, but after calming down and speaking to Ashlynn, kaneki learned a bit about this place and the person that he just stole the body from (well, technically it’s himself, right? A version of himself. Kaneki is familiar with alternative timelines by now, if only because that’s what he thinks it happened with that other Kaneki who left last year). Anyway, about what he learned-

None of it was good. And he hates everything he heard.

This world, not only is confusing, but it’s also terrifying, and the person Kaneki just stole the body from – well, he is completely insane. Naturally Ken didn’t share all of his thoughts with Ashlynn, but she probably picked on it from the terrified expressions Ken made. A psychotic killer, an assassin, and someone who willing eats other people, who was recently hired to kill the High Chancellor and wants to take over the place so he can control the Porter. Insane, that person is insane.

Do you know who is not insane? This Kaneki, who actually realizes this is bad. Given how involved original Kaneki was, doesn’t that mean he too is involved, even if he doesn’t want to be? People will recognize him, people will realize it’s not him, and given how murderous this whole faction seems to be, won’t they just go in for an easy kill? Kaneki realizes he is in danger and he realizes he should leave.

Ashlynn has been extremely helpful, but Kaneki doesn’t want to tell her he is planning on leaving (deflecting, that’s the word. Becoming a traitor is also a good way to describe it). But he can’t stay here and thus he decides to at least explore his options. Right now, he can be found at a library, reading through newspapers and articles, learning about the factions and the current state of the world. He is quick to notice Krakoa could a good faction to join but also easy to get to, considering what Ashlynn told him about Josh.

And thinking of him actually makes his face twist. Can he… really just go there and release him? While the woman holding him captive said so, in the end Kaneki is worried if he has to fight someone, too. He doesn’t want to give away that he is not the original Kaneki, and he doesn’t want to be too involved, either. At the same time, it feels so cruel to leave that person, even if Kaneki never met Josh. ] What do I do…? [ with a frustrated sigh, Kaneki passes his hands through his now white hair. Maybe the network… maybe someone else is like him? He can’t be the only one that suddenly just woke up in this place and replaced the original person living here. Right…? ]

For continuity sake, Kaneki will end up figthing Kavinsky after this. That's when he will make a network, asking for help. He will be offered help from Jane Porter (from Krakoa) during this post, but Kaneki decides to go save Josh first. He and Josh will be arriving in Krakoa thanks to Luther's powers.

3. KRAKOA; post-arrival

[ Kaneki arrived to Krakoa a complete and utter mess. He saved Josh and brought him along, and Luther came to pick him and Josh up and of course the man had no idea who Kaneki was (and most likely only knew him as “that guy who eats people”). And then in Krakoa, Kaneki had to try and explain this whole mess and how he really is not that guy who eats people (actually, he does. But not the way the other Kaneki did!!).

To add to all of that, Kaneki killed someone. He promised to himself he’d never kill a person, he’d never kill a human. And he did. It broke him completely, his mind and his heart. And sure the person he killed was an imPort and he was revived, but Ken had never killed before.

The days after his arrival are spent mostly avoiding everyone. Kaneki just wants to be left alone, as far away from people as possible. He stays by the beach while he stares down at his hands, all of him broken thanks to everything that has been happening. He doesn’t even remember how he killed Kavinsky, but everytime he remembers him dead, kaneki gags and actually vomits. He has nothing left in his stomach by now, but that will continue to happen – and he cries and sobs like a child, unable to control himself.

what did he do?!

This shouldn’t be happening. None of this should be happening. Why does everything happen to him? ]

4. KRAKOA; general/happier prompt

[ Naturally, Kaneki can’t just cry forever. He still feels sick and still cries whenever he remembers what he did, but Ken comes to the realization that he… might be here forever. So eventually he moves from his hiding place and actually joins the rest of the island. It’s surprising to see so many children around, but they seem happy and in a way, that calms his heart a little.

From time to time he hears his name and there is a strong feeling of fear and despair creeping right behind him, but it passes soon enough when he notices it’s a kid asking him if he’d like to play. “No, thank you” is always the polite answer he gives, but he does watch the children happily enjoying their time, as if the world outside this island wasn’t completely broken and messed up. Maybe that’s the point of this place.

Neverland.

Well, he is here too, so that makes him one of the lost boys. If he has to live in this world, he is glad he is allowed to be on this island, at least. ]

[Kaneki doesn't follow him. Of course he doesn't. He might even disappear entirely after this. Numbly, Katsuki opens the bottle of liquor meant for the molotovs, because fuck it if he's going to take over White Tower.

But Kaneki does return.

And Katsuki nearly throws the hairdryer at him until he sees who it is, his face flushed.]

Oh. S'you.

[ghoulking]

[ kaneki looks at Bakugou for a moment, moving to place the food on the table and then reaching to take the bottle of liquor away from him ]

Bakugou... [ having a conversation while he is drunk is... not going to be the best. But he wants to talk to him ] I'm sorry. [ that he didn't come after him, that he attacked him again, that he bit him, that he couldn't control himself. But also: ] I'm sorry I didn't notice. [ that he didn't have his quirk.

Kaneki reaches for Bakugou's hand, to gently squeeze it. Ken has been wallowing in self pity for who knows how long and didn't even see that Bakugou was in pain. He is the shittiest of friends. ]

[hot_handed]

Mine- [Katsuki growls, reaching for the bottle.] What? You gonna fucking take that away too? Is there nothin' this shitty place won't take from us?! Huh?!

[He accidentally stumbles into Kaneki's chest, stunning him enough to stare at him, initially in confusion before annoyance twists his features.]

You're always apologizin'-

When I'm the one who-

[Don't. Don't do this. Don't make him feel. Kaneki squeezes his hand and despite the fog that clouds his mind, he knows he doesn't have to admit anything. He crumbles against Kaneki, burying his face in his shoulder.]

...M'sorry.

[ghoulking]

[ kaneki reaches the back of Katsuki's head, fingers gently caressing the strands of his now orange hair, allowing him to stay like that, pressing his face against his shoulder ]

It's not your fault. [ kaneki should have noticed. It was obvious, from the start, but he didn't see (or maybe he didn't want to see?). He is a damned idiot and that's why Kaneki is apologizing. Katsuki's quirk means so much to him, and yet he is without it - it must feel terrible - and meanwhile Kaneki was crying about everything happening to himself and it didn't cross his mind that Bakugou was suffering as well.

he is so unfair and pathetic. What a shitty friend. ]

It has been so hard on you - I should have seen it.

[hot_handed]

[It's true that he's felt awful this entire time. Maybe he deserves this. Maybe being 'quirkless' was justice. And yet he wanted to see everyone again. He didn't want to be stuck here.

Seeing Kaneki again had helped. He wasn't alone and one of his best friends was here. But he couldn't protect Kaneki from harm. Not really.

Kaneki's touch is calming and he doesn't want to move this time. Let him have this.]

...broke your hairdryer.

[ghoulking]

It's not really mine. [ it came with the house. he doesn't care anyway. Kaneki stays still, quiet, before he speaks softly ] I wish you had told me... [ was he that unreliable? Well, to be honest, Kaneki can't blame anyone but himself for that, and he was quick to rely on bakugou right away when he extended his hand. To be saved by him, to be protected by him.

Kaneki is such an idiot... ] You shouldn't suffer like this... it's not fair.

[hot_handed]

Why? So you could look down on me? [Katsuki mumbles into Kaneki's shoulder, shutting his eyes for a moment. He smells nice...]

But I should.

[ghoulking]

I never once looked down on you, Bakugou... You are so strong. [ kaneki's fingers gently tug his friend's hair ]

Even without your powers, you are so strong. Even when you are scared or suffering. How could I ever look down on you? [ Bakugou is amazing. Kaneki wishes he could be half the man this person is ]

[hot_handed]

[Katsuki finally looks up from Kaneki's shoulder, his eyes hazy.]

...Idiot. You're stronger than you think.

[ghoulking]

[ he smiles sadly at that. No, he is not. he has been crying for days, like the pathetic person he is ]

Before we met here, I didn't even know what to do, I was just crying in this apartment. But you... you are always ready for action, despite everything.

Bakugou, you are amazing. [ his hand moves to rest at his face. Maybe it's because he is amazing that Kaneki didn't notice. It's a stupid excuse, though ]

[hot_handed]

Yeah...sounds like you.

[Sorry, Kaneki. He's still drunk, but he frowns when he keeps going and places both palms on each side of Kaneki's face.]

Shut up. Stoppit. I ain't...

[ghoulking]

[ he knows it's absolutely not the right moment for this but kaneki can't help but to feel his cheeks warming up as Bakugou reaches for them ]

You are, even if you can't see that right now. I'm very glad I've met someone like you, it only inspires me. [ this is sappy but it's true, Kaneki wishes to be strong like Bakugou ]

[hot_handed]

[Katsuki snorts. He can't help it.]

You need better role models.

[He squishes Kaneki's cheeks, before dropping his hands, his palms burning at the bodyheat.]

I ain't a hero. Not yet.

[ghoulking]

You don't have to be a hero for me to think this way. It's the way you are that matters to me, Bakugou. [ Hero or not. Kaneki is so glad to have him]

[hot_handed]

[Katsuki stares at Kaneki, speechless.

Thumping his head back against his shoulder, he mumbles.]

Why are you kind to me? Why?

[ghoulking]

[ he smiles wider, now]

You were kind to me as well. And despite me being the way I am and doing the things I do, you still forgave me and you are still my friend.

I think you are the one who is kind...

[hot_handed]

[He likes seeing Kaneki smile like that. It's not often he gets to see it.

Katsuki rolls his eyes though, and puts a fist on his head.]

Dumbass.

[ghoulking]

Hm. I know [ Kaneki leans a little to press his head against Bakugou, his hands dropping a little so he can hug him]

I'm really sorry I didn't notice how much you were hurting.

But that means, more than ever, that we have to go back.

[hot_handed]

[Katsuki freezes at first. His heart is racing, and he bites his lip hard, hard enough to bruise it, but his body still trembles and hot tears still threaten to spill.

But he doesn't push him away.]

Yeah. [He wraps his hands around Kaneki stiffly, like he's unaccustomed to it, and brings him closer.]

Let's go home.

[ghoulking]

[ Kaneki isn't used to it either, apart from Hide no one showed him this sort of kindness. But he doesn't push the other away either, just standing like that]

We will get there. Soon. [ it's like a renewed strength. Kaneki will fight to leave so they can go back. There is no way they are staying here any longer and now he is ready to fight for it]

And I won't tell Uraraka-chan that you got drunk.

[hot_handed]

I know.

[He's determined to win now more than ever. He smiles at Kaneki, but then his face twists in embarrassment.]

Wh- What?!

[ghoulking]

[ he smiles a bit wider ] Imagine if she knew, it'd be pretty uncool of you.

Your secret is safe with me. [ kaneki may have a crush on Bakugou, but he absolutely knows it will never go anywhere due to what he is (and also because they are from different worlds, also because he is a man, and also because ... well, a lot), bu Ochako seems to like Bakugou a lot, and she is kind and sweet.

So why not bring it up? ]

[hot_handed]

...Asshole.

[He narrows his eyes. How does he know about Ochako? How does he know that she matters to him? Maybe Kaneki has a crush on her...?]

Fine. I won't tell her that you married me.

[ghoulking]

[ because Ochako isn't that good at hiding. AND bakugo did want to bring her to DisneyWorld, so - ]

That would be worse for you than for me. [ kaneki ruffles Bakugou's hair ] She'd be very disappointed to hear that you have a husband. [ kaneki is joking, naturally. ]

[hot_handed]

[That's not the point gosh!!!

Katsuki groans, hiding his face, before reaching for the liquor.]
