Jane was not sure how she made it to Krakoa. Well, she knew the logistics of it. She knew that Isard helped her. But it was only through luck and miracles that her plan to get away from White Tower didn’t blow up in her face. When she informed Tony that she was leaving (she felt that she had to), it could have ended right then and there if she hadn’t defeated those Stormtroopers.

Isard could have betrayed her at any point in her journey to Krakoa too. A ship could have delivered her back to White Tower or put her in the hands of someone else. If it wasn’t because Isard was focused on a larger goal, on White Tower in its entirety and Jane’s leaving helped with that, well … Isard could have shot her in the back whenever she wanted.

Now she had an interview with David and this felt like a horrible remix of January. She was glad to see he was doing well, doing better … but …

This was a different world. Little she knew about him applied.

B // CLOSED TO TONY

Like she promised, Jane messaged Tony a few days after she got sufficiently enough away and was trying to settle down in Krakoa. She doubted that the message would be received well, but given the circumstances? She did want to apologize and not leave a complete mess for her “other self” when she got back. If she got back. God, this was a mess already.

Hey, Tony. It’s Jane. Don’t worry, this line is secured to Asgard and back. I’m keeping my promise of messaging you. I’m settling down. I hope things are settling down for you too. There is a lot going on—a lot—and I’m not sure what I can tell others or not.

Sorry about attacking the Stormtroopers. I hope they’re recovering.

Jane is learning that her “other self” was quite the ruthless scientist and had not been able to lift Mjolnir for quite some time. Sure, Mjolnir would have been proof that she was who she said she was, but it was with Thor now and Jane felt safer knowing it was now in better hands.

So, did you meet Jane before? Were you ever wronged by her before? Do you happen to know her from the other world? Were you sent here on a secret mission to kill her? Is she just some random person you happened to meet while on the beach?

Jane Foster. White Tower Agent. And she’d arrived here on Krakoa with the most impossible story. One that, David assured the others he’d get to the bottom of, hopefully without needing to pull in Judd.

Which was why he was here today, arriving in the guest home they had offered and shutting down all of her electronics with the briefest thought.

“Jane Foster. One wonders why I shouldn’t just see you as a Trojan Horse after what the Tower has put us through.”

Steve was feeling restless, which wasn't an odd feeling to him in the slightest especially after waking up from the ice. He really should just admit defeat and just stay awake. Realistically, he knew that wasn't a long-term option but it seemed better than the nightmares that currently plagued him.

Bucky was alive was running in a loop through his head and he just couldn't think straight. He sat down heavily, his head resting in his hands.

Jane jumped when David suddenly arrived. She knew it would happen somehow, but the coffee she drunk in an attempt to kill time didn't help.

She knew her story sounded ridiculous. She knew that she had little proof, barely anything to offer. But unlike in White Tower, where she wasn't sure if she could trust anyone, she knew that she could trust the people here in Krakoa: no one here wanted to be part of a conflict. She needed a safe and neutral place to figure out what she was going to do, since she very well couldn't usurp someone else's life. She was too different. She was a horrible liar.

"I wouldn't blame you," she said. "But I promise, I'm not here to cause trouble or put anyone in danger. I just didn't know where else to go."

Jane was feeling restless as well, which led her to wandering the beaches of Krakoa as well. At least the beaches that were quiet, which were few. She needed to figure out what to do, where to go from here.

She almost didn't see Steve until she nearly tripped over him.

"Ah! Sorry!"

Listen, he was good at entrances these days. And he definitely didn't trust the woman. Which surely is conveyed in his disapproving frown.

"You're White Tower through and through. And we've had great cause to distrust our mother faction. Why should I trust that you're not here to cause trouble? You have somewhere to go. Somewhere you were safe and useful. And instead you bring yourself and whatever annoyance you have caused Tony Stark to an island of teens and children. Why should I trust you?"

Oh, if this wasn't serious, she might tease him about it.

Taking in a deep breath, she takes a risk:

"Because I am not the same Jane Foster that you know. I'm an Import from another universe. I know you know about the multiverse and how anything is possible. Our universe is unstable, to the point where this has happened before, but with another universe. What the Jane Foster you do know has done is … I can't comprehend it, what would make any form of myself do those things and I can't even pretend to be her. Because I'm not her."

Hilariously, he has a reason to believe her. David isn’t about to give that up though. He is silent for a long moment, considering her. Considering her a lot before moving to sit.

“They tell me you had Mjolnir with you.”

"Had is the word to emphasize," she replied. "I had it for a while, but for safe keeping, I gave it back to Thor. I know he won't let it be abused."

He might have also heard that none of the Stormtroopers that had attacked her were gravely injured. Some bruises and mild fractures, but injuries only bad enough to take them out of the fight so she could escape. Apparently the other Jane would not have shown as much mercy.

Interesting. Mjolnir should be an unimpeachable source. But he has to believe it first.

“If you are worthy, then you can summon it. Prove to me you’re worthy of the powers of Thor.”

Eddie knows running on the beach might not look like much. This is an accomplishment for him. He's not worrying about sand getting in his shoes, or pressure on his knees and shins, or what trouble Richie might get up to without him. He's simply enjoying the exercise. He slows to an jog, then stops when he sees a new face. He's been in Krakoa a long time and tries to be nice to the newer arrivals. He knows they are often from bad situations. He gives a small wave.

"Hey."

Jane swallowed. "If I do that, I could put Thor into danger!"

Last she heard, he was on the run as well, possibly back to Asgard. He had told her to summon Mjolnir whenever she needed it, but if she didn't, how could she justify that?

Jane looked up from the beach. The skies out here were wonderful, so she couldn't resist going out and stargazing. Not to collect data, not to track some deep space object, but to just look. Maybe remember some legend her mother told her or a funny moment with Darcy.

"Oh, hey," she said, sitting back up and brushing the sand off of herself. "Out jogging?"

She wasn't expecting anyone else to be up this late.

“Last I checked, Thor was sticking around until the meads were brought out and sampled,” David counters.

He stands there, watching, waiting. Clearly he’s already made his demand of her.

Jane hesitates for another moment, before sighing, almost in defeat. Holding up her hand, there is a small rumble of thunder before a zing. Then, outside the window, Mjolnir hovered until Jane opened the window and brought it inside. She didn’t do anything more with it; didn't transform into Lady Thor. Having it in her hands should be proof enough.

“Thor might have his problems,” she said, giving him a hard look, “but he’s still worthy. He’s still a good person. I’m not giving up on him and neither has Mjolnir.”

“Indeed,” David muses. Not that he considers this proof enough. In his world Stark once helped build a Thor bot. Therefor he moves to join her, raising an eyebrow.

“I am psychometric. It’s something many people forget. I need to prove this is real, and I can do that with a touch.”

“Are you sure you want to do that?” she exclaimed. “I know about your powers—another version of yourself told me—and we tried—”

She shook her head, trying to find her words.

“No. You were knocked off your feet and you were sitting down. We concluded Mjolnir is self-aware. I can’t let you do that without preparing with at least a blanket and some tea!”

Does he look completely unimpressed by her statement? Yep. David doesn’t quite seem bothered by the idea that he can’t handle his own knowledges. And he can handle them. Better than most people can expect.

“Let me touch it,” he says, an edge of command in his voice.

Jaen is sure he can, with preparation and precautions. She doesn't want anything to happen to him. He has so many people depending upon him.

“Hold back,” Jane whispered to Mjolnir. “Please.”

Then, she placed it carefully on the ground between them, ready to pull him away or catch him if needed.

Cautious. He respects that. David stoops and touches the thing. No pained shout. No overwhelmed whine before jerking away. Just closing his eyes and considering before he stands straight.

“It vouches for you. And I’ve seen its history enough to know that it isn’t a replica. Which of course brings us back to your story. Tell me what you remember since arriving here. How you arrived. Where you were before.”

He needs to know if it lines up.

Jane let out a sigh of relief, glad that Mjolnir did hold back and David was alright. If only the experience the David she knew was similar to that. She hated seeing him so shaken.

"I arrived here abruptly. I found myself suddenly in this universe, in a different life, but with all of my memories and none of this world's. It's like I replaced the other Jane. As for where I was before, it was a world similar to this, with the porters and all, but we didn't have the conflict you did a decade ago."

It wasn't that Mjolnir held back. No, this David was older, stronger, more in control of his powers. Something like Mjolnir didn't put him on his ass because he'd come to learn how to handle his powers.

But he's interested in her description. And worried. This was what he had feared when he met Kaneki as he was now.

"You're not the first to tell me this. And it raises a lot of warning flags. All the years we've been here, nothing like this has happened. It's change. Change is not good, Dr. Foster."

Oh. Jane hadn’t thought about that. David didn’t look too much older—but then again, a lot could happen in a month. Or a year. Or however much difference was between him and the David she knew.

“I’m not the first,” she repeated. “I’m—oh. Oh, this is bad. Very bad. I don’t know if it was because of our porter or yours, but this … Is there any way to see if it’s behaving unusually? Or malfunctioning? If someone has tampered with it?”

David had been here far longer than her David had been in her version of this world.

"Not easily. Getting to the Porter proper is difficult. And if I went there, if I tried, Stark would see it as an aggressive action. He's close to fully unhinged."

Eddie nodded. "Yeah. I couldn't sleep so I thought I'd get a run in."

He couldn't sleep because he was worrying about what had happened to Josh, if something would happen to Richie, all the persistent thoughts that interfered with sleep.

"What about you? Looking the stars?" He asked; he wondered if she was looking for familiar ones. A bit of homesickness was not unexpected, especially since he wasn't sure how long she had been in this world.

She isn't the only one with memories of the other world. Ren's been trying to make the most of it, his own notes and what he's been entangled into being part of essentially a terrorist group.

Granted looking at the current situation, he's not sure how he feels about it. It makes sense for a rebellion since he's never been a fan of anyone having too much power.

That being said, he has to figure out if anyone else knows about the old place, or if he's stuck inside a simulation of some sort.

Which is how he ended up on the beach running into her. She is a familiar face, but...

"Hi."
