WHO: Jane & possibly you? WHERE: varies, specified by thread WHEN: varies, specified by thread WHAT: open & closed top levels as required for the duration of the event WARNINGS: to be updated as needed
[Jane looks up with an immediate grin, wiggling her fingers in Allison's direction. They are, of course, covered in brownie mix.]
Allison! I'd come and give you a hug, but I'm terribly indisposed.
[As one might be able to surmise. She bustles over to put her latest batch into the oven, then moves to wash her hands.]
I feel like I might be compensating for something. [She says then, looking around with a comical grimace at the sheer amount of baked goods she's managed to produce. Baking is good therapy for worry.] But I'm sure I'll be able to spare you ten of... anything that you want.
Claire already covered me with enough dirt and grass for today earlier.
[ There's a laugh at the batter covered fingers, which isn't in the slightest rare to find Jane covered in. The batter or the dusting of flour on her clothes and her nose. It's even cute. It's out of place for the normal faces they have to wear, and it's real, too. Allison lets herself fall into a chair at the table nearby, looking over the table. ]
[Claire, being a small child, is a walking mess generator and Jane knows she has to put time aside to occasionally allow her to 'assist' with baking exploits.
This usually results in both of them being covered in icing.]
Ahhh... brownies, cupcakes, a red velvet cake, and there's a chocolate cheesecake in the fridge.
[ It's half exaggeration, and half not. For so many reasons. Jane is one of the two tempering forces of The Council, and one of the people who made her first two years something less alone, more bearable as she slogged through raising a baby at twenty-four on absolutely no-planning, and deconstructing her father's madness in her head, on top of helping to build Krakoa.
Allison starts looking over everything on the table, and decides to go for one of the already made brownies first. The best part, she doesn't have to field her daughter wanting one of everything on the table, and she can just sink freely and untether, with relish, into taking a first, fudgy bite with a small moan of delight at the flavor. ]
Oh, I'm sure you weren't having to watch your waistline as closely. I know I wasn't before I came here.
[Before she came here, she was lucky if the place she was keeping her small band of kids in even had power and gas half the time. They'd managed, but it had been hard work, and no time for silly things like baking.
She watches Allison look over what's on offer, and she knows what the other woman is going to take before she even picks it up.]
I changed the recipe a little - what do you think?
[ There's a laugh for the first part. A sound not all that often heard in the Council Room really, but it's still here and there. Allison has a lighter side, she can't not with Claire and Luther and their little too perfect home life at the end of her days, even if it is the lesser-seen side of her outside of that.
Something more like this. Private, even when given freely.
It takes a moment for her to finish chewing, especially when she slows down that whole part of it, because she's trying to taste the difference, and there is something -- maybe richer? -- about it, but she can't entirely put her finger on it. She's never gone that far and deep into cooking for more than is needed. ]
[Jane winks, and then turns to start running water into the sink to wash up some of the mess she's managed to make so far. She had started in a whirl of inspiration and excitement, and she thinks she may well have used every single bowl in the kitchen.]
A magician never reveals their secrets, Allison, you know that.
[There's a mental note, though, that the change was a well-received one.]
[ Allison's fingers are still a little chocolatey, but she's devouring the brownie fast enough. A nice day for a treat and a long slow bit of quiet, while the beat of the party echoed across the island, low and diffused by the space.
She considered. Then. ] Do you need any help with that?
I can dry? Or help with packaging some of these up?
[She tosses a towel Allison's way in answer, giving a sunny smile as she takes the opportunity to pull down some clean airtight boxes from a nearby cupboard.
They aren't going to last long, but that's no reason to let them sit out getting stale.

It's good. Richer, maybe? More chocolate? Or?
What did you end up changing this time?
