Jane was not sure how she made it to Krakoa. Well, she knew the logistics of it. She knew that Isard helped her. But it was only through luck and miracles that her plan to get away from White Tower didn’t blow up in her face. When she informed Tony that she was leaving (she felt that she had to), it could have ended right then and there if she hadn’t defeated those Stormtroopers.

Isard could have betrayed her at any point in her journey to Krakoa too. A ship could have delivered her back to White Tower or put her in the hands of someone else. If it wasn’t because Isard was focused on a larger goal, on White Tower in its entirety and Jane’s leaving helped with that, well … Isard could have shot her in the back whenever she wanted.

Now she had an interview with David and this felt like a horrible remix of January. She was glad to see he was doing well, doing better … but …

This was a different world. Little she knew about him applied.

B // CLOSED TO TONY

Like she promised, Jane messaged Tony a few days after she got sufficiently enough away and was trying to settle down in Krakoa. She doubted that the message would be received well, but given the circumstances? She did want to apologize and not leave a complete mess for her “other self” when she got back. If she got back. God, this was a mess already.

Hey, Tony. It’s Jane. Don’t worry, this line is secured to Asgard and back. I’m keeping my promise of messaging you. I’m settling down. I hope things are settling down for you too. There is a lot going on—a lot—and I’m not sure what I can tell others or not.

Sorry about attacking the Stormtroopers. I hope they’re recovering.

Jane is learning that her “other self” was quite the ruthless scientist and had not been able to lift Mjolnir for quite some time. Sure, Mjolnir would have been proof that she was who she said she was, but it was with Thor now and Jane felt safer knowing it was now in better hands.

So, did you meet Jane before? Were you ever wronged by her before? Do you happen to know her from the other world? Were you sent here on a secret mission to kill her? Is she just some random person you happened to meet while on the beach?

"Different than your home?" Eddie asks. It could be her entire planet was different, or she was simply from another part of the world. If there was another Derry on this planet, he knew he was far from it.

"Nah, I still don't feel tired. Maybe that's a good thing, a nice change from being too tired." In the past, all the worrying he did could exhaust him. He still worries, but nowhere near that level.

"A little bit," she replied. "I mean, there are the same constellations and such, but the other details are a bit off. Like some stars are older or younger than they're supposed to be. But, different universes and all that."

At least it was only small details and not something like an entire planet missing. They needed Jupiter to prevent asteroids from colliding into Earth.

"Oh, that is good!"

She stood up.

"I'm not up for running, but we can keep moving if you'd like."

"Makes sense. Everything here is a bit off." Eddie said with a chuckle. Even though he'd been in this world a long time, it was still stranger than Derry in many ways.

He nodded and began walking with her. "Have you been here long?" He asked, letting her interpret that as in this universe or in Krakoa specifically.

She would have to ask him about Derry sometime. It sounded like an interesting place, even if it might be weird or bizarre.

"No, I just arrived," she said, being vague on purpose. "But it's a nice change of pace. I don't think you can beat the weather."

"This is true. It's practically a paradise." Eddie comments. Nothing's ever perfect. Josh is missing. All the kids who like to party are going to hurt themselves at some point, in his opinion. Still, he's got Richie and that makes it as close as it gets.

"A nice change of pace from..?"

Jane agrees with that: nothing is perfect. There are going to always be cracks. It just depended upon how they filled those cracks and if it would get worse or not.

“Lots of running around. I was a college professor back in the other world. I’m worried about my students, of course, but there isn’t much I can do when I am in another universe.”

"We've got lots of young people here. If you ever want to make your life a little busier and teach." Eddie suggests. "I was a kid when I was imported here. I don't know what line of work I would have gone into if I'd grown up back home. Or what I'd been like. Probably boring as fuck." His mother would have kept him and Richie apart, that much was for certain. It would have sucked.

“I could do that,” she said. “But I think I’ll give myself more time to adjust before I do anything. Just because I was a college professor doesn’t mean I’ll do well with younger people.”

Not to mention some of them would recognize her.

“What field are you in now?”

"Medicine." Eddie answered with a hint of pride in his voice. "I became a doctor and now I can really look out for people." He always tried to do that back home and was held back by his mother, bullies, and a killer clown.

“Really?” she said. “That’s great!”

And she can see the island needing a doctor with all these kids running around. Hopefully all they needed would be bruised knees and scraped elbows.

"Thank you." Eddie said with a grin. This was one topic he could ramble on about, even if he was still curious about her. "It was the one thing I always wanted to be, since I was kid. I used to carry around a fanny pack with first aid supplies in case my friends or I got hurt."

“That is adorable,” she said sincerely. “I bet you were a life saver when you wanted to keep playing without having to go back home first!”

She would have appreciated someone doing that as a kid!

"Yeah, I was! My friends never appreciated it though. They thought I worried too much. Assholes." He said with a light tone. "I can call them that. I'm engaged to one of them now."

Jane laughed.

"Hey, you were all kids! I'm sure they appreciate it now! But congrats on the engagement."

"They would appreciate all of this, if they were here." Eddie said. Krakoa was a hell of a lot better than a clown infested sewer, if they had to deal with It as adults. "Thank you."

Clown infested sewer? Why did that sound familiar now?

"You're welcome. I know I appreciate this place too. It's good for clearing your head and figuring out what to do next."

Eddie nodded. "So, have you been getting ideas on what you'd like to do next?" While he knew his future was clear, he also knew that for others it was less certain, especially in this world.

"No, not really," she said. "Back on the main land, things are complicated. I need to make a decision, and I have a feeling I will be going back sooner than later, but ..."

That was interesting. Eddie was always surprised to hear people want to leave the island. It was practically a paradise and safer than the other factions, at least in his opinion. "

Do you want to go back? No one's gonna make you leave if you don't want to."

The islands were. Jane understood why people came here, why they stayed. For those who couldn’t defend themselves or wanted to just live, it was the best place to come to.

“I know, but—but things are bad over there. I can’t just leave it. But I can’t make things worse for the people here either. It was already a huge risk to come here.”

Eddie raised an eyebrow, even more curious about who she was. He'd never make her leave and he trusted that no one else would either. Still, if her presence created a danger, they needed to know about it. So they could be prepared. He always wanted to be prepared, back home and here.

"What's the risk? Is someone after you?"

Perhaps she wouldn’t be forced to leave—but she might have to.

“It’s alright. David is well informed of the matter. And if I get even the hint that something would endanger anyone here, I’m more than prepared to do what it takes to prevent that.”

She might not like it, but she would.

"You're not alone in that. Not here."

Eddie's never considered himself brave. He never takes unnecessary risks. But when people are in trouble, he always comes through for them.

"We'd all do what we had to, to keep each other safe."

At least he knows he and Richie would. They'd proven that in their childhood battle with Pennywise. He just wished they could have stopped whatever happened to Josh.

“Thank you.”

Then it sounded like he was a lot braver than he thought. Someone could always boast that they were brave, but when the going got tough?

That’s when sticking around matters.

“Yeah. But I’ll figure out what to do. I always do.”

"Sounds like you spend a lot of time alone."

Eddie and his friends had relied on Bill back home as a leader type, but they solved their biggest problems together. It was the same way here.

"It can be easier to figure shit out when there's other people around."
