1. WHITE TOWER; before quantum leap

[ It’s not that Kaneki was born a bad person; he is in fact the epitome of “the way to hell is paved with good intentions” because all of this started with wanting to do good and spiraled down to whatever he is now. Ken is a man in love; he is in love with his wife who is still back in their original world, he is in love with his husband who was ported out years ago – and the love he feels for them, after so many years without them, turned into loss. And loss turned into bitterness, anger, frustration, despair. And Kaneki does not deal well with any of that. He blamed himself at first, but eventually blamed the world.

The world is wrong. The Porter is wrong.

And he is tired of living in the shadow of a machine that nobody really controls – or rather, don’t know how to control. Because, in his mind, he is certain it IS possible to do that. If only he can get to it.

And that’s his plan, to get to it by reaching the highest position as the High Chancellor. He has few bad beans on his way, but he is certain he can pluck them out. And with that single objective in his mind, Kaneki grew to become a member of the Parliament of White Tower, but also a vicious assassin for the faction. Not only that, but his biology – a half-ghoul, who can only consume humans – became well known and he too became well known as the “One Eyed Reaper”, the one who does not leave anything behind (because he eats them, yeah!). And he embraced this title quite well, standing tall, often with an angry expression (also called “resting bitch face syndrome”) and little patience for anyone that will not help his objective.

Few people get to see a much more gentle side of him, often reserved to his current lover Ashlynn, mentor, and allies. Towards everyone else, he is cold, often angry, if not downright vicious. Careful not to step on his toes – he bites. ]

2. WHITE TOWER; post quantum leap

[ waking up in the middle of a room with a woman pretty much on top of him was not something he expected happening, but it is something that did happen. Confusion hit, naturally, but after calming down and speaking to Ashlynn, kaneki learned a bit about this place and the person that he just stole the body from (well, technically it’s himself, right? A version of himself. Kaneki is familiar with alternative timelines by now, if only because that’s what he thinks it happened with that other Kaneki who left last year). Anyway, about what he learned-

None of it was good. And he hates everything he heard.

This world, not only is confusing, but it’s also terrifying, and the person Kaneki just stole the body from – well, he is completely insane. Naturally Ken didn’t share all of his thoughts with Ashlynn, but she probably picked on it from the terrified expressions Ken made. A psychotic killer, an assassin, and someone who willing eats other people, who was recently hired to kill the High Chancellor and wants to take over the place so he can control the Porter. Insane, that person is insane.

Do you know who is not insane? This Kaneki, who actually realizes this is bad. Given how involved original Kaneki was, doesn’t that mean he too is involved, even if he doesn’t want to be? People will recognize him, people will realize it’s not him, and given how murderous this whole faction seems to be, won’t they just go in for an easy kill? Kaneki realizes he is in danger and he realizes he should leave.

Ashlynn has been extremely helpful, but Kaneki doesn’t want to tell her he is planning on leaving (deflecting, that’s the word. Becoming a traitor is also a good way to describe it). But he can’t stay here and thus he decides to at least explore his options. Right now, he can be found at a library, reading through newspapers and articles, learning about the factions and the current state of the world. He is quick to notice Krakoa could a good faction to join but also easy to get to, considering what Ashlynn told him about Josh.

And thinking of him actually makes his face twist. Can he… really just go there and release him? While the woman holding him captive said so, in the end Kaneki is worried if he has to fight someone, too. He doesn’t want to give away that he is not the original Kaneki, and he doesn’t want to be too involved, either. At the same time, it feels so cruel to leave that person, even if Kaneki never met Josh. ] What do I do…? [ with a frustrated sigh, Kaneki passes his hands through his now white hair. Maybe the network… maybe someone else is like him? He can’t be the only one that suddenly just woke up in this place and replaced the original person living here. Right…? ]

For continuity sake, Kaneki will end up figthing Kavinsky after this. That's when he will make a network, asking for help. He will be offered help from Jane Porter (from Krakoa) during this post, but Kaneki decides to go save Josh first. He and Josh will be arriving in Krakoa thanks to Luther's powers.

3. KRAKOA; post-arrival

[ Kaneki arrived to Krakoa a complete and utter mess. He saved Josh and brought him along, and Luther came to pick him and Josh up and of course the man had no idea who Kaneki was (and most likely only knew him as “that guy who eats people”). And then in Krakoa, Kaneki had to try and explain this whole mess and how he really is not that guy who eats people (actually, he does. But not the way the other Kaneki did!!).

To add to all of that, Kaneki killed someone. He promised to himself he’d never kill a person, he’d never kill a human. And he did. It broke him completely, his mind and his heart. And sure the person he killed was an imPort and he was revived, but Ken had never killed before.

The days after his arrival are spent mostly avoiding everyone. Kaneki just wants to be left alone, as far away from people as possible. He stays by the beach while he stares down at his hands, all of him broken thanks to everything that has been happening. He doesn’t even remember how he killed Kavinsky, but everytime he remembers him dead, kaneki gags and actually vomits. He has nothing left in his stomach by now, but that will continue to happen – and he cries and sobs like a child, unable to control himself.

what did he do?!

This shouldn’t be happening. None of this should be happening. Why does everything happen to him? ]

4. KRAKOA; general/happier prompt

[ Naturally, Kaneki can’t just cry forever. He still feels sick and still cries whenever he remembers what he did, but Ken comes to the realization that he… might be here forever. So eventually he moves from his hiding place and actually joins the rest of the island. It’s surprising to see so many children around, but they seem happy and in a way, that calms his heart a little.

From time to time he hears his name and there is a strong feeling of fear and despair creeping right behind him, but it passes soon enough when he notices it’s a kid asking him if he’d like to play. “No, thank you” is always the polite answer he gives, but he does watch the children happily enjoying their time, as if the world outside this island wasn’t completely broken and messed up. Maybe that’s the point of this place.

Neverland.

Well, he is here too, so that makes him one of the lost boys. If he has to live in this world, he is glad he is allowed to be on this island, at least. ]

[He looks up, suddenly looking very tired. He stares at Kaneki's face, searching him, taking in every detail-]

You can't keep running forever. [This time he takes Kaneki's hand. It's an agreement, to do it his way. For now.]

[ghoulking]

I know, I know. [ he knows. But he just... needs a moment. He just found out that Bakugou is here and he remembers - he just wants at least to allow it to last a bit longer.

Or maybe just to have a moment without the sky falling in on his head.

Kaneki squeezes Bakugou's hand but that gesture makes him feel like he wants to cry at the same time. Because he doesn't really deserve that or Bakugou's patience or even his protection. ] I...

... I murdered someone. [ he blurs it out just like that, right before a choked sound gets stuck on his throat ] I didn't mean to, I- I didn't want to- [ his free hand reaches up to cover his own face as he feels tears rolling down his cheeks again. He has been crying a lot of late ]

[Katsuki holds onto Kaneki's hand firmly. He tells himself it's to reassure Kaneki, but really it's to keep himself anchored so he doesn't feel like he's drowning.

He doesn't flinch when Kaneki confesses, but his eyes widen a little. It was bound to happen to someone, but Kaneki... Kaneki's a gentler soul than him. It can't be easy.]

I know you didn't.

[He's not sure what he's saying, honestly. He gives Kaneki's hand a little squeeze.] Come on. Let's go.

[ghoulking]

[ Kaneki tries to wipe his tears away but he can't. They keep falling regardless. The last few days he has been trying to get over it but he can't, at all; all he can do is try to live with that in his life now.

He nods softly, allowing Katsuki to take him by the hand. Ken looks back at the other for a moment, before his eyes fall down to the ground again.]

You look so different...

[hot_handed]

[He hates seeing Kaneki like this. He's never been good at comforting people, and he's not even sure if there is a way to, right now. He pulls at Kaneki's hand lightly to get him to start walking, to walk away from this, this whole fucking mess.

He glances down when Kaneki comments on his appearance.]

So do you. [Since when was Kaneki so...hot? He was never bad to look at, but he's beautiful now, stronger looking, and it's not fair and his face starts to flush and hell no he's not about to start crushing on Kaneki when he's in tears over murdering someone. Fuck. He's all sorts of fucked up.]

[ghoulking]

I guess I end up with white hair no matter what. [ Kaneki tries clearing his tears away again, and finally decides to pull out the weird mask covering his human eye. The Kaneki from this world really embraced being a ghoul, didn't he?]

You look nice. [ despite everything, he does. It's different but not bad. ] ... I like blond better, I think. [ Kaneki would rather talk about this than to think about how her killed Kavinsky]

[hot_handed]

Huh? The hell do you mean? [He looks at Kaneki in confusion, reaching to try and take the mask from him when he pulls it out.] Don't.

[He scoffs softly, looking down in hopes that Kaneki won't see him blushing even more in the dark.] I look like an edgy wannabe ninja. ...But you look badass, I guess.

[ghoulking]

I checked the posts the other me did before - he also had white hair. I think half-ghouls end up with that. [ when Katsuki tells Kaneki not to take his mask off, kaneki stops. He is right, it's probably for the best.

But now Bakugou is close so that means he does see him blush. What...]

Ah... Thank you. Uhm- the clothes are a bit... Too much. [ he is definitely not crying anymore. Instead he is looking at Bakugou and the way he looks] You don't have a hero suit here?

[hot_handed]

You look cool with white hair. [He shakes his head again, trying to grab the mask from Kaneki so he can throw it away, somewhere in the trees to be forgotten.]

Yeah, but they suit a nerd like you. [His eyes widen at the question, and he looks away in shame.] I- No.

[ghoulking]

[ Kaneki allows, not really caring that the mask was pulled away. He isn't very used to have both his eyes uncovered, but that's okay now.

They suit him? Kaneki isn't so sure. But still he tilts his head to the side] It's okay. I mean--you look okay. Nice.

[ Kaneki smiles a little, now it's his turn to blush a little]

[hot_handed]

You- [He stares at Kaneki, his eyes widening when he sees him blushing. Flustered, he buries his face in his good hand, groaning.]

Mmmph. Shutup.

[ghoulking]

Ah-sorry. [ RIGHT, right.

Kaneki cleans his face one last time, just to make sure there were no more tears, before he looks away. It's probably too weird, though they always end up like this, Kaneki realizes. He won't think too hard about it, at least he will try not to.

In any case, since they are still holding hands, Kaneki just waits for Bakugo to keep walking if he wants to, he will follow ]

[hot_handed]

[Katsuki grumbles under his breath, his grip on Kaneki's hand tightening. It is weird, but this situation can probably be considered an special circumstance, right? He didn't think he'd see anyone he knew again...

He keeps walking in silence until he eventually comes to a stop.]

...Which way's Krakoa?

[ghoulking]

[ Kaneki stops too, blinking] You want to go there...? [ naturally, Kaneki can take him. He did suggest it in fact.]

[hot_handed]

I said I would go with you, didn't I? [He scowls.] Wait, where did ya think we were going?

[ghoulking]

Ah, I-

well, I was just going to go wherever you wanted to go. [ because, to be absolutely honest, Kaneki doesn't want to leave him nor part ways. ] I can take you there.

[hot_handed]

... [He just stares at Kaneki before he bursts into laughter.]

BAHHAHAHAHA You really are an idiot, you know that? [He wipes some stray tears from his eyes, though whether they're from his outburst or just the relief of seeing Kaneki is a mystery.] Whatever. Lead the way, bastard.

[ghoulking]

[ and of course kaneki's face turns bright red. He didn't think about it at all!!! ] It's not that funny... [ HUFF HUFF

in any case, yes, he will lead the way back to the island. At least they will have a place to rest for the night, and somewhere where they can just talk about what the next step is ]

[hot_handed]

[Katsuki probably hasn't let go of Kaneki's hand by the time they've reached Krakoa and his room there. He lingers in the doorway, finally having relinquished Kaneki's poor hand, and folds his arms as he looks around.]

You should rest.

[ghoulking]

[ Kaneki is very glad Bakugou didn't let go.

Ken's room iss a very tiny room with one singles bed. Naturally, no coffee maker, and there are no books either. It's not like Kaneki's actual roomar all but he has only been here for a little while and books were the last thing on his mind.]

You should too. Do you want to eat? I can try to find something for you.

[hot_handed]

[He steps all the way in now, shaking his head.] I'm fine. ...What about you? You gotta food source?

[ghoulking]

I... Ate back at the White Tower. [ because the other Kaneki had a fridge full of dead people. Kaneki also brought some bottles of blood along, but he doesn't want to creep Bakugou out.]

Uhm, I'm sorry the room only has one bed. You can take it, if you'd like. [ Kaneki finally takes off the heavy coat he is wearing. And if Bakugou thought he was badass before, now he can see that this version of Kaneki is like a small war machine under his clothes]

[hot_handed]

[Katsuki won't be that creeped out. He's relieved Kaneki got to eat anyway, and starts rolling his shoulder.] Hopefully we'll be out of here before you need-

[He doesn't answer Kaneki's offer. He doesn't even finish his sentence. His eyes have gone to Kaneki's body, the hard muscles that weren't there before, and his voice dies into a small groan, his face a nuclear shade of pink.

It's not fair. Fuck he's hot.]

[ghoulking]

[ Kaneki nods, too distracted with everything to notice Bakugou's gaze yet.] I only need to eat once a month, anyway... [ well, Kaneki is actually a binge eater, so he wonders about that. However, due to everything happening, he hasn't been hungry thankfully.

Kaneki pulls the gloves off - he has black fingernails, but it's not nail polish - and after he takes the undershirt, glancing back at Bakugou] I can give you a shirt for you to sleep i-

[ he pauses, noticing Bakugou's expression, and Kaneki can't help it but his face turns bright red right away. He is quick to turn around to cover himself, however if Bakugou is quick enough, he will see two scars on Kaneki's body: one near his right hip from the surgery that turned him into a ghoul, and a bite mark on his right shoulder. ] D-don't stare..!

[hot_handed]

[When Kaneki blushes, Katsuki starts to panic, his voice cracking in embarrassment.] Don't just look like that, you stupid muscled asshole!!!

[He did notice the scars though, and covering his face, he walks over until he can get a better look at Kaneki, looking over his shoulder. Without even thinking, he tries to touch the scar.] What happened here...?
